Therapies

The word therapy comes from the Greek 'therapeia', which means healing. Psychotherapy literally means healing the mind or the soul.  I am able to offer a wide range of effective therapeutic approaches at my Dickson House practice.
 
What is counselling?
Counselling is when a client and I meet in a confidential setting to explore a difficulty the client is having, or some dissatisfaction with their life or current circumstances. It is an empowering process, in which I help a person take control of their life, fulfil their potential, and have an increased sense of well being.

What is psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy is the treatment, by psychological means, of problems of an emotional nature in which I work with a client with the shared object of removing symptoms, changing disturbed patterns of behaviour and thought, and promoting positive personality growth, so encouraging future potential to be realised.

What is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) ?
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is the most effective, long-lasting treatment for many emotional and anxiety problems and is growing in popularity. It is a short-term psychological treatment which helps you change the way you think, feel and behave. Many doctors refer patients here for CBT as the NHS treatment of choice, especially for phobias, panic attacks, eating disorders and depression.
 
What is Cognitive Hypnotherapy?
Cognitive Hypnotherapy combines CBT with hypnosis as an extremely effective way of making positive therapeutic change, usually after only two or three sessions. It taps into your “hidden” abilities and potentials allowing new responses to break out and change damaging habits of thought and behaviour. It is a totally safe and natural method during which you are calm, peaceful and relaxed and you never loose control or consciousness.
During hypnosis, the subconscious part of your mind is open to receive positive suggestion from the therapist and later by yourself under the state of self-hypnosis which you are taught during the session.
